Every individual makes a difference!
MLW began thanks to the vision of one man who understood that young people can empower each other to bring out their best potential. Now,over 50 years later, the peer teaching model implemented by Felix Simon still exists and MLW has reached thousands of young people thanks to the many individuals who devote their time, energy and passion to MLW. But,it takes financial resources too!
While our overhead remains low,it is increasingly costly to provide this experience to the wide range of students we serve and traditional revenue sources such as government grants are shrinking.
We need your help to close the gap! Be a part of the continuing legacy of Uncle Si,Mike Michaelson and countless program directors and staff through the years. Choose how you want to make a difference to keep MLW strong today and into the future!

Alumni Partners Campaign
No one knows better what goes into making the MLW magic happen! From staff support to providing scholarships that attract a wide range of students from around the state, our alumni have made our continued work possible through their generous contributions to support our annual operating budget.
Mike Michaelson Endowment
Established by the Policy Board on November 14,2004,the Mike Michaelson Endowment Fund secures a future for MLW by creating a fund to support the growth and stability of the organization. The fund achieved tremendous success when it was launched and it is our goal to keep the endowment as strong as the legacy Mike Michaelson continues to embody today.
Corporate Sponsorship
Staff training, financial support to underwrite outreach programs with partner organizations, and scholarships for deserving students and emerging leaders are all ways that corporations and businesses can contribute to the growth and development of the young people of Maryland. Read here how a grant from Comcast planted the seeds in Southern Maryland for transforming hundreds of lives.
Foundation Support
Youth leadership development and the successes of our young people in school and in the community is a benefit for all. Many foundations are eager to provide donations that make a meaningful impact for regions of the state that are underrepresented. One such grant comes from the Mid Shore Community Foundation and has contributed to the geographic diversity of the students in our core programs. This,in turn, benefits all of the participants.
Individual Donations
Did you have a life-transforming experience at MLW? Did you as a parent discover someting new in your child upon his/her return from MLW? If there were a unique way to thank your team, would you do it? Now you can through our individual donor ‘Give Back’program. You can memorialize all of these aspects of the program through a designated gift to MLW recognizing the work of a program, director, staff member, team or any other aspect you would like to acknowledge. Those recognized will be listed on our website and in our quarterly e-newsletter.
MLW participates in the Community Investment Tax Credit Program which allows you to support MLW while reducing your State of Maryland tax liability in this calendar year or over the next five years. See the MLW CITC flyer for more information. Download the form to take advantage of this great program today.

- $1,000 –Give a scholarship to cover the full cost of a delegate’s summer program experience
- $650 –Donate tuition (pay for one delegate to attend a summer program!)
- $350 –Help pay the difference between the actual cost per delegate and our tuition
- $100 –Give to our Staff Training Fund (help us cover the costs of training our volunteer team each year)
- $50 –Cover a delegate’s “back to school”costs (subsidize the costs of supplies for a delegate, including our annual guidebook!)
- Other amount –We welcome a gift of any amount to our general scholarship fund. We put each and every dollar to good use serving our delegates, their families, and our community.
